I’m continuing my series where I interview diverse subject matter experts on their autopsy and audit of the Democratic Party and their take on what significant changes need to be made to defeat MAGA in future elections. Recently, I chatted with progressive host and activist Francesca Fiorentini.
For this Chai Talk, I invited former Republican activist and co-founder of The Lincoln Project, Reed Galen, to break down what he believes went wrong in 2024. Surprisingly, he shares many of Francesca’s critiques of the Democratic establishment. Galen spent the past year doing his part to convince voters all across America to vote against a criminal vulgarian who incited a violent insurrection. Unfortunately, like many of us, he failed. (Still, Harris only lost by 1.5% points, one of the most narrow margins in U.S. history.)
As host of “The Homefront” podcast and substack, he’s been urging Democrats to craft a consistent, authentic narrative that takes on the establishment and the 1% that is profiting off the misery and exploitation of American workers and families. In this conversation, Galen outlines why Democrats are currently beholden to a failed model that ensures future electoral losses and will eventually destroy their brand and political party. Instead, he urges a new way forward that can help win over so many voters who decided to stay home instead of voting for Kamala Harris.
