How Can the Democratic Establishment Reform and Meet the Moment?

Kaivan Shroff and I have a spirited debate and conversation about the present and future of the Democratic Party, which I argue needs to abandon corporate money, AIPAC and embrace more Mamdanis.
Houston Democrats Finally Got Power. Then the Infighting Began.

Do you want to see a spirited but respectful debate and conversation between two sons of South Asian immigrants who oppose fascism and MAGA but have strong disagreements about the present and future of the Democratic Party?

Of course you do!

Kaivan Shroff, a Democratic commentator, non-profit advisor, and attorney, joined me to discuss the current abysmal state of the Democratic Party, which has clocked in its lowest favorability rating in nearly 30 years. While Republicans were passing a toxic bill that is deeply underwater with the majority and guts Medicaid to pay for billionaire tax cuts, Dems were busy smearing Zohran Mamdani. Democratic advisors and consultants are spending millions to find the liberal Joe Rogan and learn how to speak to men. They’re also still sucking at the teat of billionaires and AIPAC and refusing to budge and meet the majority when it comes to changing their positions on Palestine and fighting the oligarchy.

I believe Mamdani reflects the desire of the majority to find fighters who are authentic and speak against the elite who are using and abusing institutions to enrich themselves at the expense of others. “The far left” is actually the majority of the party, which is also “woke” and whose positions, for the most part, are increasingly popular. The old guard, represented by Biden, Clinton, and even Kamala Harris, has not evolved to meet the moment. Shroff disagrees and puts forward the argument that the Democratic Party, although imperfect, didn’t vote for Trump’s bill from hell and has adopted many of the progressive policies that are championed by its base.
