Palestinians and Lebanese civilians are still dying even as US headlines are focused on the swing states and polls. Israel’s war on Gaza has expanded to the West Bank and Lebanon. President Trump just visited Dearborn, Michigan, home of the largest Arab American population, in a cynical ploy to win over the support of jaded voters who feel betrayed and abandoned by the Biden Administration and Harris campaign.

America’s unconditional support for Israel’s war has made it an outlier in the global arena and also alienated many progressive voters. Regardless of who wins the election, the occupation and expansion of Israeli settlements must still be confronted.
Assuming Harris wins - and she must, for our democracy - how can her incoming Administration pivot and pursue a path toward peace and security for all people in the region? With the time that President Biden has left, how can he flex his leverage over Israel and push for a ceasefire and return of hostages? Despite the Administration’s failings, why is Kamala Harris still a better option for Palestinians than Donald Trump?
I invited NYT columnist Nick Kristoff to discuss these issues. He has written extensively on the topic. Despite the ongoing tragedies, he still believes there is a chance for a better path ahead, but it will require U.S. leadership and action.
