In our current hellscape, we must desperately cling to positive news even if it feels like we’re squeezing water from a rock.
Within 6 months, Donald Trump and MAGA have tarnished America’s reputation, alienated our allies, created an unwinnable trade war, helped make measles great again, unleashed terror on American cities, given billionaires a permanent tax credit, bombed Iran for the sake of Israel, and indulged in cruelty, greed, and stupidity at an unprecedented scale.
However, they might have already overplayed their hand.
White supremacy and greed are the guiding north stars of this Administration, which has two shadow presidents in the form of white nationalist hate-monger Stephen Miller and white Christian nationalist Russell Vought. Billionaire Elon Musk was part of the club until his transactional relationship with Trump recently soured. In the past week, the Trump regime has stumbled on three major pillars that are central to their identity and promises to the MAGA base.
When it comes to lowering prices, easing inflation, and helping the economy, Trump has already screwed up with his useless, reckless trade wars and his “big beautiful bill” that guts Medicaid but funds ICE to the tune of $180 billion and gives permanent tax cuts to the rich. Bad news travels fast. Trump is underwater by nearly 23 points on this “signature” legislation. Today, a shocking poll from Gallup reveals that Trump is now weak on his strongest issue: immigration. As a result of ICE’s cruelty, which includes tear gassing children and harassing US citizens, Trump is losing on immigration by nearly 30 points, and Americans now have a record high approval of immigration at 79%. This whiplash happened in just 6 months!
Alas, you should never go full conspiracy theorist, but that’s exactly what the right-wing media and political ecosystem did to fuel the culture war, demonize liberals, and radicalize their base, who were promised the release of the alleged Epstein files. Well, now that they’re part of the deep state they once assailed, Pam Bondi, Kash Patel, and Dan Bongino have conveniently said there’s no such conspiracy and Epstein died by suicide. Unfortunately, their base doesn’t believe them, and now MAGA stalwarts are openly criticizing the Trump Administration. An Axios report from earlier today alleged that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino had a major fight with AG Pam Bondi over the handling of the files.
Whoopsie!
Unfortunately, these growing cracks within MAGA and the GOP’s plummeting numbers don’t seem to faze Trump. I wonder why? Could it be because he will not relinquish power and go away peacefully? If you think this is hyperbole, then I give you his statements and the violent insurrection he incited 4 years ago.
