Donald Trump is increasingly behaving like a dangerous authoritarian and engaging in multiple constitutional crises barely a week into his Presidency. This was expected if anyone read Project 2025 or took Trump literally and seriously. Democrats even warned us he was a fascist until they showed up to his inauguration, normalized his Presidency, and President Biden told him, “Welcome home.”
Yup, these Democratic leaders are really on top of it.
It took them an entire week to respond to Trump’s pardon of January 6th insurrectionists. They probably had to get the messaging vetted, tested, and sanitized by their numerous corporate consultants who are still paid to be wrong election after election. Thankfully, there were signs of life as a defibrillated Senator Chuck Schumer ambled out and criticized Trump’s unilateral freezing of federal funds. Today, Democratic Senators grilled the thoroughly unqualified and dangerous RFK Jr. who will, tragically, be our next Director of HHS and inevitably kill innocent Americans.
Still, a righteous rage is brewing among Americans who reject MAGA and are desperate to see a robust opposition that reflects their passion and fight. There are some Democrats, such as AOC, Rep. Crockett, and Rep. Raskin, who are doing their part, but the current leadership of the party looks rudderless.
They would be wise to listen to communications strategist Anat Shenkar-Osorio, host of the “Words to Win By” podcast, who has helped craft winning messages for pro-democracy movements here and abroad. She joins me to discuss how Democrats need to move away from their current milquetoast strategy and learn from the energetic and bold messaging we witnessed in Brazil and France that mobilized a majority to vote against fascism.
Grab a chai and give us a listen!
